3 Books To Read Right Now: June 2023

I’ve always been a bit of a bookworm. One of the best presents I’ve ever received was my cousin, Dana, signing me up for the Book of The Month club. I try to make it a point to read every day as it’s my way to calm my nerves and escape from all the mayhem that is reality. I’ve been tapped in to recommend books before, so I thought I would share three of the books I would recommend reading right now.

I have to thank my wonderful cousin, Joelle, for having my back and letting me borrow this on our trip to Italy this past month. I made the biggest mistake of not packing ANYTHING to read (didn’t even stop at the airport to pick up anything, which is not like me in the slightest). Luckily, Joelle came prepared with three novels for me to choose from. I decided to read ‘Ugly Love’ because I am a fan of Hoover’s other books, and I may have already read the other two options. I am an absolute sucker for a romance novel that has a twist of suspense thrown in because I’m a millennial woman who grew up in the time of Disney and the false realities of love. With that, if you’re looking to follow Tate as she moves into her pilot brother’s apartment, only to fall for the hot pilot who lives across the hall and starts a ‘no-strings-attached’ love fest, I highly suggest this as your next read. There are plenty of twists and turns to keep you hooked on this novel. It had this effect on me so much that I finished it in two days.

If you’re looking for a historical book based on what possibly happened to one of the de’Midici’s and are obsessed with the Renaissance, this is for you. It’s not known exactly how Lucrezia di Cosimo de’Medici met her end, however, we do know of how she was married off at the age of 15 due to her eldest sister dying before her marriage. Lucrezia stepped into her place and married Alfonso II d'Este, Duke of Ferrara, to merge the two dynasties. What follows will blow your mind as you learn the ins and outs of their arranged marriage, and ultimately, O’Farrell’s take on Lucrezia’s mysterious death.

Another novel I’ve read recently that had me hooked from start to finish is ‘The Lost Apothecary’. The past and present-day come together when Caroline Parcewell finds a tincture bottle along the Thames as a part of a wading group during her solo travel away from her fiancé. Where is the bottle from? What was it used for? Once a respected healer, Nella, created salves and potions to help those who sought out her services, until life forced her to create tinctures for darker purposes. Learn how these paralleled stories intertwine and learn about what happened to both of them that made them end up where they are/were.
